We were delighted to welcome Nazeeha Saeed, a Bahraini journalist living in France, who had travelled to Slovakia as the [Fjužn] Festival’s guest. After she reported on the brutal force used by the police against protesters in 2011, she was detained, interrogated, and tortured. She was released under the condition that she would never talk about what had happened behind the walls of the interrogation cell. However, Nazeeha didn’t let herself to be threatened, informed the public about everything, and sued those responsible for the wrongdoing. Although she is still waiting for the court’s verdict, and because she is forbidden to do her job, she was forced to leave Bahrain. Nazeeha decided to go on and speak out, whenever freedom of speech and press are threatened.
